La Fabulosa Historia de Zahara

I was invited up to Sevilla by my close friend Cecila Bogard who runs a online onestop magazine called Tertulia Andalucia which is all about culture in Andalucia and is awesome I have spoken about the website before. Anyway to cut a long story short Cecilia and her boyfriend Javi are organising roof terrace gigs for Spanish pop stars, and they invited me to come along and listen to Zahara.

I almost did not go as I just could not be arsed. I was sitting have a cup of tea with my sponsor Steve and I was very close to pissing it off against the wind. And then I got up jumped into my car put Paul Hedderman running on my iphone and drove the 3 hours from Fuengirola to Sevilla.

I must say the gig was wicked. What I found was a very modest set up on the top floor of Cecilia's and Javi's house. Two satellites, one wedge for the back fold, and a 16 track live mixing desk, with a feed directly into a laptop for a live recording, and then in between a very attractive young lady with a guitar.

Zahara was excellent. Songs were tight, the voice was pitch perfect, and she told some incredible stories in between each track to explain where the music had come from. I laughed, soaked up the atmosphere, missed the people I love and those I have loved in my life, my parents, women, men, my children, my friend, my GODS, fell in love with the music, and realised that it is all but a beautiful dream, and may the dream continue, until it longer does.

Zahara spoke mostly in Spanish, and Cecilia translated for me, however Zahara's being was so funny that I did not have to understand what she was saying to enjoy her energy. I have now checked out her stuff online and it’s good, it’s really good. I mean who am I to say anything, but I do, I like her words, and a lovely voice. It's all good stuff.

At the end of the gig I was asked to play, which I did, and I loved it, although Zahara's guitar had very light strings on, she plays very lightly, she seems to have an incredible touch, whilst I play with a heavy hand, in a clumsy manner and so the tuning although not perfect got me through a short set. It was great. I had a great time.

This is life. And life is beautiful.
